Orchestra Kentucky opens its 16th season with perhaps the most popular classical symphony ever written: Beethoven’s 5th. Also on the program is Richard Rodgers’ Victory at Sea, a medley of Big Band era hits, the Korngold violin concerto, and Schindler’s List, featuring Charles Yang.
After opening with Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Copland’s Billy the Kid, Jimmy Webb joins Orchestra Kentucky to perform his hits, including By the Time I Get toPhoenix, Up, Up and Away, Wichita Lineman and MacArthur Park. Orchestra Kentucky and Jeffrey Biegel present the world premiere of Webb’s new composition for piano and orchestra.
Tenor Dan Snyder and soprano Jennifer Brennan-Hondorp sing the greatest arias of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The second half of the program features the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, complete with guest vocalists and choir singing songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Phantom of the Opera and more!
Orchestra Kentucky celebrates the 100th anniversary of Holst’s The Planets with a multi-media presentation of the 20th century masterpiece. The second half of the concert celebrates the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, complete with a laser show and characters from the films.
