Orchestra Kentucky opens its 17th season with music from the City of Eternal Love. Featured are Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture, Respighi’s Pines of Rome, Rozsa’s Ben Hur Suite, Khachaturian’s Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia, Rota’s Theme from The Godfather and the world premiere of Giovanni Allevi’s piano concerto, featuring Jeffrey Biegel.

TCHAIKOVSKY & FRIENDS

This concert, dedicated to the land of the Tsars, opens with Tchaikovsky’s fateful Symphony No. 4 and continues with his overture to the story of the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The evening concludes with the greatest hits of Russian-American songwriting legend Irving Berlin, including There’s No Business Like Show Business, Puttin’ on the Ritz, Blue Skies and God Bless America.

This evening of dance music opens with Richard Rodgers’ Slaughter on Tenth Avenue and Carousel Waltz, and continues with Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story Suite for violin and orchestra, featuring Charles Yang. The evening concludes with Ravel’s masterpieces, La Valse and Bolero.

BACH & BACHARACH

Orchestra Kentucky concludes the season with the music of Bach and Bacharach. After opening with J. S. Bach’s mighty Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, the concert continues with a Charlie Chaplin film, accompanied by Le Boeuf sur let toit, written by Burt Bacharach’s teacher, Darius Milhaud. The orchestra presents the Kentucky premiere of Concerto for Simply Grand Piano and Orchestra by P. D. Q. Bach, the only forgotten son of the Bach family, and the world premiere of Dick Tunney’s Bacharach Concerto. The concert closes with some of the greatest hits of Burt Bacharach, including One Less Bell to Answer, Alfie, The Look of Love, Arthur’s Theme and more.
